Problem

I've transplanted a Hyper-V VM running CentOS 6.3 from one Hyper-V host to another, possibly changing the versions of Hyper-V it is running on. The VM will pick up a DHCP lease but after that stops talking to the network. Setting a static IP doesn't help.

Eventually dmesg fills up with noise like:

eth2: 21140 transmit timed out, status fc6981c7, SIA fffffe00 00000068 00000070 fffffec8, resetting...

(or whatever your eth device is).

Solution:

# chkconfig irqbalance off
# reboot

This is a collection of techical information, much of it learned the hard way. Consider it a lab book or a /info directory. I doubt much of it will be of use to anyone else.
