Backups vs Archives

If you haven't tested it, it's not a backup. Think about that. One of the things I've done to drive home the importance of backups is to walk up to a sysadmins cube and ask them to delete their home directory. I'm the boss, I can do that. Trust me, its fun. :-) If they hesitate, I know right away that they don't have confidence in their backups.

This is a collection of techical information, much of it learned the hard way. Consider it a lab book or a /info directory. I doubt much of it will be of use to anyone else.
