Install VMware tools into a new Linux VM with a repository that will keep them updated:

cd /etc/yum.repos.d
wget >>http://yum.gridway.net/yum/vmware-tools/yum.repos.d/vmware-tools.repo
cd
yum -y install vmware-tools-esx-nox

This is usually done as part of initial deployment.

Rebooting is typically required at this point.

(I don't remember where I found the pieces under this.)

This is a collection of techical information, much of it learned the hard way. Consider it a lab book or a /info directory. I doubt much of it will be of use to anyone else.
