Downloaded Audacity for Windows; went to Radio Shack The Source By Circut City and purchased a six foot mono-to-mono audio cable and a stereo-to-mono plug. I can now play tapes on my tape player and record them on Windows; then export them to MP3. (The mono is required because this unit has no line-in jack, and in any case I'm not recording stereo). This will do for now.

This is a collection of techical information, much of it learned the hard way. Consider it a lab book or a /info directory. I doubt much of it will be of use to anyone else.
