Building SSH

For sshd: one thing I learned the hard way was that the switch --enable-md5-passwords is necessary if you have MD5 passwords enabled on the host system. You'd think it was implied, but it isn't. The symptom of this is that users with valid passwords can't log in and the only thing logged is a terse note that the password was incorrect. (OpenSSH 3.5p1)

This is a collection of techical information, much of it learned the hard way. Consider it a lab book or a /info directory. I doubt much of it will be of use to anyone else.
