AutoYaST notes

For AutoYaST:

  • log into the desktop as root and invoke YaST:
    # /sbin/yast autoyast
    Note that the .xml file generated is immense compared to the RedHat Kickstart control file; I don't see any practicality to trying to generate the control file by hand.
    (SLES 9):You have to step through all the fields as there are practically no defaults provided for you. The order of the fields is a little strange too.
  • Invoke it from the installer:
    autoyast=nfs://10.0.10.1/os/SuSE-9.0/profiles/profile.xml
    ...or you can use httpd or whatever. Combine with the install= parameter for a hands-off network-based install.

This is a collection of techical information, much of it learned the hard way. Consider it a lab book or a /info directory. I doubt much of it will be of use to anyone else.
