RedHat 8.0 does not provide a GUI way of configuring the conduits (necessary if you want the syncronizer to synchronize anything). Fortunately, you can invoke it manually:

$ gpilotd-control-applet --cap-id=1

This should be a one-time operation that takes 30 seconds, but it is annoying to have to figure this out.

It is also an illustration of what evils can happen when you get sucked into the trap of thinking that if there's no gui to do something, there's no way to do it.

This is a collection of techical information, much of it learned the hard way. Consider it a lab book or a /info directory. I doubt much of it will be of use to anyone else.
