Solaris 2.6 on "high speed" sun4u systems

Installation of Solaris 2.6 HW 5/98 on a Netra t1 105 will fail unless the image has kernel patch 105181-XX (-10 or above) applied.

Sample Error Message:

ok boot net

SOLUTION SUMMARY:

To prevent this, the Operating Environment Installation CD (OECD) p/n 704-6914-10 must be used. Complete procedures are documented in the manual "Installing Solaris 2.5.1 or Solaris 2.6 Software on 419+ MHz Systems" (p/n 806-2156-10 - also included with the OECD).

The recommended solution for this problem is to create a JumpStart install server containing the Solaris 2.6 HW 5/98 image patched via the modify_install_server script from the OECD. Look for the OECD and documentation in the shrink wrapped packet that says "Binary Code License".

NOTE: Variations on previous releases of the Operating Environment Installation CD:

704-6657-10 April 1999:

This version does not contain a modify_install_server script to patch a JumpStart image nor will it install in text mode.

704-6657-11 May 1999

This version will not install in text mode, a graphic interface is required.

This is a collection of techical information, much of it learned the hard way. Consider it a lab book or a /info directory. I doubt much of it will be of use to anyone else.
