local::lib

This sets up a perl environment so you can CPAN modules into a user account's local environment. This means

  • you don't have to be root to install and otherwise fool around with CPAN modules;
  • you can limit the damage of new and dangerous modules to one user account; and
  • you can install modules in a way that supercedes, but doesn't stomp all over, your distribution's package management managed perl.

This is a collection of techical information, much of it learned the hard way. Consider it a lab book or a /info directory. I doubt much of it will be of use to anyone else.
