Creating VMs from the command line

  • create the vmx file (well documented format)
  • create the disk image (using vmdiskmanager on GSX, or vmware-vdiskmanager on Server)
  • register the VM using "vmware-cmd -s register <path to vmx file>"

This is a collection of techical information, much of it learned the hard way. Consider it a lab book or a /info directory. I doubt much of it will be of use to anyone else.
