Network Connectivity

Veritas always seems to work better if the client has the server's name and IP in /etc/hosts, and the server has the client's name and IP in /etc/hosts.

Library Dependancy

A reminder that the RedHat linux client depends on having a compat-libstdc++ RPM installed. When you do a basic install, this RPM does not get added, you have to do it yourself.

A symptom of this is when you add a client, but backup connections fail with error 52 and attempts to poke the client through the VNB gui fail with network connection timed out (error 41).

Diagnosed by:

# telnet localhost bpcd
This returned a network connection, plus a notification that the bpcd process could not find the required libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3

This is a collection of techical information, much of it learned the hard way. Consider it a lab book or a /info directory. I doubt much of it will be of use to anyone else.
