Q: I added a windows XP computer to VLAN x in the server room and it doesn't work. I can't RDP to it or ping it.

A: Are you sure the VLAN is correct?

Q: Yes. When I use the computer, I can ping/web/RDP to general targets on the network at large.

A: Did you enable inbound ICMP in the Windows firewall?

Q: No. Now that I've done this, I can ping it but I can't RDP to it.

A: Did you enable RDP?

Q: No. Now that I've done this, it only works when I am in the server room testing it.

A: Is it this laptop?

Q: Yes.

A: You do know that when you close the clamshell like this, the laptop goes to sleep, right?

This is a collection of techical information, much of it learned the hard way. Consider it a lab book or a /info directory. I doubt much of it will be of use to anyone else.
