Problem

Bluetooth mouse will not be working when you grab it. You can usually get the mouse to wake up again by opening the Bluetooth settings pane in the Control Panel (or by bringing that pane to focus if you already had it open).

Commentary

Windows is putting the Bluetooth radio to sleep to piss you off save power.

Solution

  1. In Device Manager, expand Human Interface Devices, and bring up the properties of Bluetooth Low Energy GATT compliant HID device.
  2. Go to the Power Management tab.
  3. Clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power checkbox.
  4. My laptop also has a Microsoft Hardware Bluetooth Device with a Power Management tab, so I did the same thing for that device.

Solution, old

This is a collection of techical information, much of it learned the hard way. Consider it a lab book or a /info directory. I doubt much of it will be of use to anyone else.
