The StarWars: Episode One Effect
The effect on viewers who bring unrealistic expectations from a previous movie into their first viewing of a sequel.
Named for the
StarWars Episode One: The Phantom Menace movie, roundly vilified as being an inadequate member to the cannon. Most critics fail to note that it would be profoundly difficult (some may say impossible) to impress a jaded, expectant 30-year-old mind in the same way that an unsuspecting 7-year-old mind would be.
