To set interface mode:

  • make sure the default Internal interface has no DHCP server enabled (it is by default) and has no policies referring to it (there are by default) or any address objects referring explicitly to it
  • on the console:
config sys global
set internal-switch-mode interface
end
  • say yes and let the switch reboot
You can now set individual port characteristics, or create your own software-switch groupings.

This is a collection of techical information, much of it learned the hard way. Consider it a lab book or a /info directory. I doubt much of it will be of use to anyone else.
