Comments

  • This is mostly stock (I believe) -- the magic for the /var/log/HOSTS stuff is at teh bottom, the DynFile and the template
  • You might have to restorecon -Rv /etc/rsyslog.conf after putting a new version of the file in place. I did. The error was the monumentally unhelpful
# service rsyslog start
Starting system logger: rsyslogd: [origin software="rsyslogd" swVersion="5.8.10" x-pid="16364" x-info="http://www.rsyslog.com"] start
rsyslogd-2013:CONFIG ERROR: could not interpret master config file '/etc/rsyslog.conf'. [try >>http://www.rsyslog.com/e/2013 ]
rsyslogd:EMERGENCY CONFIGURATION ACTIVATED - fix rsyslog config file!

This is a collection of techical information, much of it learned the hard way. Consider it a lab book or a /info directory. I doubt much of it will be of use to anyone else.
