Quick start for mysql on RedHat

...assuming you are using the rpms that come with your distro, and you have actually installed the rpms.

# chkconfig mysqld on
# service mysqld start
# mysqladmin password $YOUR-ADMIN-PASSWORD
# mysql -u root -p mysql
> select user();
> quit
