Memory Logging

(2015-03-12)

Problem

By default, baby firewalls (which seems to mean up to and including F90Ds ) do not log practically anything.

Solution

Enable memory logging from the command line:

config log memory setting
set status enable
end

The system will now use up to 10% of its internal memory for logs, so it really will only show you realtime logs, but that's better than the nothing you get by default.

Defaults in 5.2.x seem to be reasonable, in that you do get some logging by default.

Commentary

Really? Who thought that turning off memory logs was a good idea? Who seriously thought that having no logs by default was a good idea?
